Director of Physical Education, Health, & Athletics | | The district has an anticipated vacancy for a 12-month Director of PE, Health, & Athletics to begin on our about September 1, 2025. DESCRIPTION: The Director of Physical Education, Health & Athletics will be responsible for the coordination and administration of the Interscholastic Athletic Program, Physical Education Program and Health Education. DIRECTOR OF PHYSICAL EDUCATION, HEALTH & ATHLETICS RESPONSIBILITIES: - Prepare, present, and administer a yearly budget to the Superintendent of Schools and Business Manager, which shall include: (a) estimate of income from all sports; (b) estimate of cost of supplies, equipment, transportation and salaries for coaches, referees, supervisors, and ticket sellers, and any other necessary expenses.
- Provide leadership for the development and revision of written job descriptions and program guides in the area of interscholastic athletics.
- Assist in developing, implementing and communicating policies established by the Board of Education.
- Assist in the interviewing of candidates for physical education, health, family and consumer science and coaching positions.
- Serve as health and physical education consultant to building principals.
- Coordinate and schedule all athletic events and related services.
- Schedule all interscholastic games.
- Recommend all members of the coaching staff to the Superintendent of Schools.
- Coordinate use of district athletic facilities including the scheduling of athletic events and recreation department.
- Maintains a current inventory of all equipment and supplies with the coaches; and the repair and storage of all equipment.
- Be directly responsible for all coaches. Conduct pre-season meetings each sports season with coaching staff and parents. Arrange for coaches’ courses for coaching certification and ensure that all coaches meet NYS coaching certification requirements.

- Requisition all transportation for athletic and physical education events
- Coordinates preseason recruitment meetings with coaches and athletes.
- Schedule officials for all athletic contests. Arrange payment of officials.
- Administer school sports physical program and collect and maintain records of physicals, permission slips and health histories. Coordinates and maintains all reports of injuries.
- Represent, with the high school Principal, the school district at the local, league, sectional and state levels in all matters pertaining to district athletics in general.
- Promote and encourage coaching personnel to attend clinics and workshops specific to their area in support of professional staff development.
- Evaluate policy, program and coaching staff at the close of each sport season and draft reports as necessary.
- Revise the “Coach’s Guidebook” as needed.
- Coordinate presentation of awards. Organize awards banquet and coordinate awards.
- Coordinate and maintain accurate records of all monies received as income.
- Administer academic eligibility, NYSPHAA Inc. eligibility standards, misconduct reports, transfer students and exceptional senior game requirements.
- Work with the All-Sports Booster Club concerning support activities for all sports.
- Cooperate with administrators in organizing and administering a plan to insure spectator control at athletic events.
- Act in cooperation with maintenance personnel in preparing the fields.
- Arrange for sanctioning on invitational events and administer invitational tournaments and meets.
- Represent the school district to all local agencies involved in recreation for youth and adults.
- Coordinate and schedule recreational facilities including the gymnasium and playing field.
- Oversee and maintain the Extra-Curricular Conduct and Eligibility Policy. Work with coaches, students, teachers, and parents to promote the positive role of the student athlete in our school program.
- Oversee the Health and Family & Consumer Science programs
OTHER DUTIES - Assists with supervising the schools teaching process through both informal and formal observation and evaluation.
- Keeps abreast of changes and developments in the profession by attending professional meetings, reading professional journals and other publications and discussing problems of mutual interest with others in the field.
- Participates and supports the strategic plan and district initiatives.
- Participates in building staff and department meetings, district-level meetings, Board meetings, and such other meetings as are required or appropriate.
- Responds to written and oral requests for information.
- Performs other related duties as assigned by the Superintendent of Schools.
TERMS OF EMPLOYMENT: - Twelve-month position per current contract.
SALARY & BENEFITS: - Per contract between the Superintendent of Schools and the South Glens Falls Administrator’s Association.
