The District has a vacancy for a Microcomputer Technician located in the Technology department. This is a competitive Civil Service position which requires the applicant to be on a current Civil Service list for Microcomputer Technician or to be able to complete the required examination. Applicants must be a high school graduate with four years of successful experience working with computer hardware equipment.
General Duties:

Installs, checks and tests new computer hardware equipment

Responds to calls for hardware and software problems; diagnoses problems and determines the most cost effective method for solving problems

Implements corrective action and/or repair of hardware and software problems. Discusses repair issues with BOCES LAN Technician and Building Administration

Operates a help desk for all users of computer equipment

Assist in the preparation of specifications for all computer hardware equipment

Assist in maintaining all local area networks, internet connections and the district-wide area network

Maintain an inventory of computer parts

Prepare various reports and financial records

Attend various meetings such as Technology Committee, Board of Education and meetings where technology equipment is reviewed
Experience:

Basic Knowledge of and the ability to grow expertise related to commonly used data management tools and curriculum software commonly used by educators (i.e., Google application and more)

Must have excellent organizational skills

Must be able to deal with a variety of individuals

Needs to have the ability to organize several tasks simultaneously

Experience in computer hardware repair

Essential Knowledge/Skills & Abilities: Thorough knowledge of microcomputer hardware including local and wide area networks and applications software; good knowledge of the principles and practices of diagnosis; maintenance and repair of computer hardware equipment and related peripheral devices; good communication skills; ability to express ideas clearly and effectively, both orally and in writing; ability to interact with individuals in a team environment; strong interpersonal skills; tact, courtesy and physical condition commensurate to perform the essential functions of the job, with or without reasonable accommodations.
Salary: Full-time, 12 month, Annual Salary starting at: $40,000. Applicable benefits pursuant to current Managerial Confidential Handbook.
