Microcomputer Technician

The District has a vacancy for a Microcomputer Technician located in the Technology department.  This is a competitive Civil Service position which requires the applicant to be on a current Civil Service list for Microcomputer Technician or to be able to complete the required examination.  Applicants must be a high school graduate with four years of successful experience working with computer hardware equipment.

 General Duties:

  • Installs, checks and tests new computer hardware equipment

  • Responds to calls for hardware and software problems; diagnoses problems and determines the most cost effective method for solving problems

  • Implements corrective action and/or repair of hardware and software problems.  Discusses repair issues with BOCES LAN Technician and Building Administration

  • Operates a help desk for all users of computer equipment

  • Assist in the preparation of specifications for all computer hardware equipment

  • Assist in maintaining all local area networks, internet connections and the district-wide area network

  • Maintain an inventory of computer parts

  • Prepare various reports and financial records

  • Attend various meetings such as Technology Committee, Board of Education and meetings where technology equipment is reviewed

 

Experience: 

  • Basic Knowledge of and the ability to grow expertise related to commonly used data management tools and curriculum software commonly used by educators (i.e., Google application and more)

  • Must have excellent organizational skills

  • Must be able to deal with a variety of individuals

  • Needs to have the ability to organize several tasks simultaneously

  • Experience in computer hardware repair 

  • Networking

 

Essential Knowledge/Skills & Abilities:  Thorough knowledge of microcomputer hardware including local and wide area networks and applications software; good knowledge of the principles and practices of diagnosis; maintenance and repair of computer hardware equipment and related peripheral devices; good communication skills; ability to express ideas clearly and effectively, both orally and in writing; ability to interact with individuals in a team environment; strong interpersonal skills; tact, courtesy and physical condition commensurate to perform the essential functions of the job, with or without reasonable accommodations.  

Salary:  Full-time, 12 month,  Annual Salary starting at: $40,000.  Applicable benefits pursuant to current Managerial Confidential Handbook.
