Custodian - High School

There is an anticipated vacancy for a Custodian – Full-Time (12-Month) late-shift (2:30-11:00pm) at the Sr. High School.  This is a competitive Civil Service position which requires the applicant to be on a current Civil Service List for Custodian, or be able to complete the required examination.  

GENERAL DUTIES:  

  • Clean classrooms, restrooms, corridors, entrance ways and sidewalks.
  • Dust desks, woodwork, furniture and other equipment.
  • Sweep, mop, scrub and wax floors.
  • Clean and mop lavatories and locker rooms and replace soap or towels. 
  • Help set up areas for activities and tear down after.
  • Change light bulbs.
  • Make minor repairs to furniture, electrical fixtures, windows and window shades, locks, faucets, heating system and other equipment.
  • Empty wastebaskets, collect and dispose of rubbish.
  • Wash windows.
  • Mow lawns, trim shrubs, rake leaves, remove snow and ice from walks and driveways and perform a variety of other groundskeeping tasks as assigned.
  • Assist in the operation of an oil or gas-fired low-pressure steam, hot water or hot air heating system.
  • Receive, move and store incoming school supplies.
  • Arrange chairs and tables and other equipment for special use of school building.
  • Perform a variety of errands and related custodial tasks.
  • Other duties as assigned by Building Services Supervisor, Senior Custodian, Building Principal or Director of School Facilities & Operations.

REQUIRED KNOWLEDGE & ABILITIES:

  • Knowledge of building cleaning practices, supplies and equipment and ability to use them economically and efficiently.
  • Ability to acquire knowledge of the operation and maintenance of school building heating equipment.
  • Ability to make minor plumbing, electrical, carpentry and mechanical repairs and perform a variety of routine maintenance tasks.
  • Ability to understand and carry out simple oral and written instructions.
  • Ability to get along well with others.
  • Willingness to perform custodial and other manual tasks.
  • Thoroughness.
  • Dependability.

 

MISCELLANEOUS:  Position is Full-Time, 12-Month

SALARY & BENEFITS:  Starting at $34,500 (Step 1) salary to commensurate w/experience. Applicable benefits pursuant to current CSEA contract.

Maintenance Mechanic I

There is an anticipated vacancy for a Maintenance Mechanic I

Description:

  • Performs general commercial building repair and maintenance and does other duties as required, such as but not limited to snow removal, grounds work etc.
  • This class involves a variety of Building maintenance and repair tasks of a general nature. Employees of this class perform work in all of the building trades areas on a basic level and will work with the leadership of a Building Maintenance Mechanic II on larger or more complex projects. Incumbents perform their duties with some latitude for independent planning or laying out of the working details.

General Duties:

  • Performs repair and maintenance on floors, ceilings, walls, doors, windows, roofs etc. Takes part in a departmental preventive maintenance program and assists with grounds as necessary. This class will do snow removal and other duties as assigned.

Required Knowledge & Abilities

  • Good knowledge of the systems that are in a modern commercial building and how they relate to each other to enable the building to operate.

  • Experience or certification in HVAC preferred

Cleaner - Substitutes

The district has continuous recruitment for substitute cleaners.

GENERAL DUTIES:  

  • Dust furniture 
  • Wash windows, walls, woodwork and lavatories
  • Sweep, wash, mop and scrub floors using cleaning equipment 
  • Gather and dispose of refuse 
  • Clean and polish furniture and brass.

REQUIRED KNOWLEDGE & ABILITIES:

  • Some knowledge of cleaning methods, materials and equipment 
  • Ability to follow oral and written instructions 
  • Ability to read and write 
  • Thoroughness; cleanliness 
  • Good physical condition 
  • Ability to get along well with others.
