Transportation Routing Specialist

DISTINGUISHING FEATURES OF THE CLASS:

This is a 12-month, full-time position. It is a competitive position with Saratoga County Civil Service and candidates will be required to successfully pass the civil service exam when offered. The position provides assistance and support to the Transportation Supervisor in a large school district.  Responsibility consists of managing the district’s transportation computer system program.  The work is done under the general supervision of the Transportation Supervisor.  In addition, related work shall be assigned as required by the Transportation Supervisor or Central Office Administration.

 

GENERAL WORK ACTIVITIES:

  • Operates the district’s computerized fleet routing and scheduling software program.
  • Prepares time schedules for bus routes for public school and non-public school pupils.
  • Acts as liaison between the school district and parents regarding pupil transportation problems and issues in support of the Transportation Supervisor.
  • Assists the Transportation Supervisor and other district officials in the development of computerized bus routes in accordance with Policies, Regulations and State Education Guidelines.
  • Works closely with drivers on route changes to ensure safety, efficiency and timeliness.
  • Maintains records on transportation personnel and payroll.
  • Coordinates emergency evacuation drills with drivers and school building personnel.
  • Performs word processing, spreadsheet and database management on district computer system.
  • Prepares a variety of records and reports required by the Department of Motor Vehicles, Department of Transportation and State Education Department.
  • Works with the Transportation Supervisor on staff assignments, contract negotiations, personnel records and other related responsibilities.
  • Actively involved in the negotiation process.  Involvement will include discussions and input regarding the district’s negotiation strategies.
  • Assists the Transportation Supervisor in the development, planning and presentation of Professional Staff Development pursuant to Local, State and Federal transportation guidelines. 
  • Performs other assignments as directed by the Transportation Supervisor and Central Office Administration.

  • Knowledge of standard transportation methods and the operation of the district's bus fleet.
  • Knowledge of budget development.
  • Knowledge of the principles and practices of accounting.
  • Knowledge of current computer word processing and database software applications.
  • Ability to keep records and generate reports.
  • Ability to work collaboratively and give direction to applicable staff.
  • Ability to communicate effectively both orally and in writing.
  • Ability to exercise and practice good judgment, tact, courtesy.
  • Maintain physical condition and commiserate with the demands of the position.

Substitute Bus Aide (Asst. Bus Driver)

GENERAL DUTIES:  

  • Assist children on and off bus
  • Be able to operate special equipment on the bus
  • Assist bus driver when backing.
  • Assist bus driver during emergencies

GENERAL DUTIES:  

  • Drive a school vehicle over assigned routes. 
  • Supervise students’ behavior, loading and unloading of the school bus. 
  • Wash outside front and rear of bus as necessary and sweep interior. 
  • Follow all New York State Motor Vehicle and Department of Transportation Laws, State Education and local school district rules and regulations.

Bus Driver - 8 Hour

Anticipated Vacancies:

The District has anticipated vacancies for five (5) Full Time School Bus Driver (8-Hour) in the Transportation Department.

General Duties:  

  • Drive a school vehicle over assigned routes. 
  • Supervise students’ behavior, loading and unloading of the school bus. 
  • Wash outside front and rear of bus as necessary and sweep interior. 
  • Follow all New York State Motor Vehicle and Department of Transportation Laws, State Education and local school district rules and regulations.
  • Other duties as assigned by the Transportation Supervisor and the Superintendent or designee.

Salary & Benefits:

  • 12-Month Position, 8 Hours/Day; Starting at $36,000 annually. Actual salary commensurate with experience.

Bus Driver - Part-time (4 hrs.)

 

The District has vacancies for two (2) Part-Time School Bus Drivers (4-Hour) in the Transportation Department.

General Duties:  

  • Drive a school vehicle over assigned routes. 
  • Supervise students’ behavior, loading and unloading of the school bus. 
  • Wash outside front and rear of bus as necessary and sweep interior. 
  • Follow all New York State Motor Vehicle and Department of Transportation Laws, State Education and local school district rules and regulations.
  • Other duties as assigned by the Transportation Supervisor and the Superintendent or designee.

 

 

   
$20.00 PER/HR.
