The district has an anticipated vacancy for an Account Clerk - Payroll

 

Position Overview:

The work involves responsibility for the performance of a variety of moderately complex clerical tasks in the preparation and control of payrolls.  The work requires a general understanding of specific laws, office rules, procedures and policies.  The work is performed under general supervision of the Assistant Superintendent for Business in accordance with established policies and procedures.  Supervision of others is not a regular responsibility of this position.  Does related work as required.  

 

Minimum Qualifications:

  • Graduation from a regionally accredited two year college with an Associates Degree and three (3) years experience primarily involving the maintenance of financial records and accounts, one (1) year must have involved the preparation of payrolls OR 
  • Graduation from high school or a GED and five (5) years of experience as defined above.  

Duties: 

  • Prepares payroll from timesheets submitted by supervisor, or principals.  
  • Computes and checks computations for all overtime pay and items to be deducted.
  • Verifies time, attendance, sick and vacation reports.
  • May print payroll checks for appropriate signatures.
  • Assists in maintaining personnel files for employees.
  • Complies data and prepares periodic records and reports of payroll deductions such as social security, state and federal tax withholdings, union dues, and health insurance.
  • Computes checks for garnishments.
  • Operates personal computer and other office equipment for payroll printing.
  • Performs various clerical tasks related to payroll work involving typing, filing, and sorting.
  • Answers telephone and provides routine information. 
  • Does related work as required.

Required Knowledge, Skills and Abilities: 

Good knowledge of modern methods of maintaining and checking financial records and accounts; good knowledge of payroll procedures and applicable federal and state laws, rules and regulations; good knowledge of office terminology, procedures, and equipment; good knowledge of business arithmetic and English; ability to make arithmetic computations rapidly and accurately; ability to follow oral and written instructions; ability to prepare and maintain written records and reports; ability to get along well with others; clerical aptitude; high degree of accuracy; tact and courtesy; physical condition commensurate with the demands of the position.
