The district has a vacancy for a probationary 12:1:4 special education teacher starting in the 2025-26 school year.
Program Description: The program is designed primarily for students who have a diagnosis of autism and other related developmental disorders in grades K-1. The program is designed for learners who require intensive and individualized instruction, support, and attention. Students that require significant, individualized instruction, predictable routine and environment with an integrated whole-language approach to communication. (gestures, sign, augmentative communication). Students will require intensive support with adaptive (self-help) and daily living skills, not limited to, feeding, dressing, and toileting.
NYS Certification required.
Knowledge of the TEACCH (Treatment and Education of Autistic and related Communication-handicapped Children) method is a structured approach to teaching and supporting individuals with autism spectrum disorder (ASD) is preferred. It emphasizes creating a structured and predictable environment, using visual supports, and adapting teaching strategies to individual needs and strengths. The TEACCH method aims to improve communication, social skills, independence, and overall quality of life for individuals with autism.
